The Wilkes-Barre City Health Department recently participated in the planning of
Live Well Luzerne County Healthy Community Challenge. The Community
Challenge was a program presented to municipal, community and business
leaders in Luzerne County. Ten $1,500.00 grants were awarded to municipalities
and communities including The City of Wilkes-Barre who were able to come up
with a plan to initiate healthy changes in their communities. In addition the
Wilkes-Barre City Health Department did a presentation on Community Gardens
and was a mentor to participants at the program.
The Wilkes-Barre City Health Department hosted a Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training to
Wilkes-Barre City Employees. The training was conducted by Fire Fighter
Francis Evanko.
Human Resources/Payroll
City Hall will host another session of Weights Watchers for employees and others who wish to participate in the weight loss program. Meetings will be held on Wednesdays from 11 :15 a.m. to 12 noon in City Council Chambers, fourth floor, City Hall. The cost for the ten-week session is $100 and it will begin in April. Fire Department
The Wilkes-Barre Health Department, with the assistance of Fire Fighter Francis Evanko, conducted Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
Private Evanko conducted training for ten City Hall employees on how to perform CPR and how to utilize an AED.
The AED was installed on the first floor of City Hall.
The AED was purchased through a grant received from The Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania Immunization Grant at a cost of $I,500.
Police Department
The police department recently completed the annual firearms safety and qualification course. The police department recently completed first aid and CPR re-certifications.
Department of Public Works
The DPW will shortly begin to prep and clean the raised gardens along Wilkes-Barre
Boulevard and behind Kistler Elementary School. In addition the City is going to begin
its annual street sweeping and hand sweeping program throughout the neighborhoods to
help provide a cleaner atmosphere. If you would like to assist the City in this clean up
