Lifestyle behaviors play a major role in the progression or prevention of disease. Most health problems can be directly attributed to high-risk health behaviors like cigarette smoking, physical inactivity, poor nutritional habits, stress, failure to wear seat belts, lack of or improperly installed car seats or failure to wear bicycle helmets. These behaviors are often developed early in life and continue as one ages.

These unhealthy habits can put individuals at a high risk for developing chronic diseases, which kill or debilitate hundreds of Wilkes-Barre City residents each year. Many of these diseases can be detected early through screening procedures, which can result in better outcomes, less morbidity and mortality.
