WILKES-BARRE RESIDENT CHARGED WITH ARSON IN GARDNER AVENUE FIRE
WILKES-BARRE - Jody Owens, 34 of Wilkes-Barre, has been charged with 5 counts of arson and failure to prevent a catastrophe related to a fire last evening at 198 Gardner Avenue, a property that Mr. Owens co-owned. The Wilkes-Barre Fire Department responded to a structure fire earlier this morning at the property. Upon investigation, a Wilkes-Barre fire inspector determined the cause of the fire as intentionally set and turned over his findings to Wilkes-Barre Police detectives. Mr. Owens voluntarily came to police headquarters and provided a statement to police regarding the incident. He was charged subsequent to that interview. Mr. Owens has not been arraigned yet. There was heavy smoke and fire damage to the attic and one bedroom in the house. No other nearby homes were damaged by the fire.
