WILKES-BARRE - On Saturday, August 13, Mayor Thomas M. Leighton and the City of Wilkes-Barre will present the third annual "Summer's Cool on the Square", an end-of-summer event on Public Square that will feature live musical performances throughout the evening. The event will start at 11 a.m. and end at approximately 10 p.m. It is free to the entire public.

"We look forward to welcoming the public to downtown Wilkes-Barre for this year's ‘Summer's Cool on the Square' event," said Mayor Leighton, "It promises to be an event that the whole family can enjoy and we invite everyone to spend the entire day in the city to enjoy the food and festivities that this event has to offer."

There will be a variety of activities for children and families throughout the day including the rescheduled "Pirouettes in the Park" dance performance from the Cherry Blossom Festival. The downtown business community has enthusiastically supported the event.  Restaurants and stores will be open and many will offer discounts and specials to customers.  It should be an exciting capstone of another successful summer in the City of Wilkes-Barre.

To accommodate the event, Public Square will be closed to vehicular traffic on three sides on the day of the event.  Public Square will be closed from North Main Street to West Market Street, West Market Street to South Main Street, and South Main Street to East Market Street. The Square will remain open from East Market Street to N. Main Street, where traffic will be able to continue north on Main Street. Public Square will reopen to traffic at midnight. There will be no parking on S. Main Street from Public Square to E. Northampton Street or on Public Square the day of the event. Traffic will have access to the Central Parking Lot located on S. Main Street.
