The 2009 4th of July Celebration in Kirby Park

On Saturday, July 4, more than 20,000 people brought blankets and chairs to Wilkes-Barre's beautiful Kirby Park and set their eyes to the sky for the City of Wilkes-Barre's Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration. The day began with the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA's 26th annual 3-mile Bernie's Memorial Run/Walk through downtown Wilkes-Barre. For more information on this 4th of July tradition, please call the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA at 823.2191.

At 12:00 noon, a huge variety of food and craft vendors, as well as many rides and games, opened in Kirby Park. As dusk grew, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, led by Maestro Lawrence Loh, played patriotic favorites, leading into a spectacular fireworks display that ended the night in a grand fashion.

Thank you to event sponsors Martz Group, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Price Chopper, The Times Leader, and the Luzerne County Convention and Visitors Bureau for helping the city plan this beloved July 4th celebration.

The 2010 4th of July celebration will take place on Sunday, July 4th, 2010, at Kirby Park. Please check back for future updates. We hope to see you there!
Please note that, for their safety, dogs are not allowed in Kirby Park for the 4th of July Celebration.
